Zengibar Road: A 102-Kilometer Adventure Where History Meets Nature
Are you ready to walk on ancient stones bearing the traces of Rome in the mysterious arms of the Taurus Mountains? The Zengibar Trail invites you not just to a trekking route but to the thousand-year-old stories of Anatolia, the warmth of Yörük culture, and the wildest beauties of nature. Stretching from Bozkır to Bolay Plateau, this 102-kilometer journey brings together the silent cries of ancient cities, the exuberance of waterfalls, and the majesty of peaks touching the sky.
In the Footsteps of History: Ancient Cities and Roman Heritage
The Zengibar Trail takes its name from Zengibar Castle, the strategic heart of the Isauria region during the Roman era. Perched at 1,816 meters on Asar Hill, the castle offers a commanding view of the Göksu Valley. As you climb and stand on the walls where Roman soldiers once stood, you can feel the power of history while gazing at the unparalleled vistas of the Taurus Mountains.
Another highlight of the route is the Astra Ancient City. Neighboring the residents of Bolat Plateau, this temple city is renowned for its monuments dedicated to Zeus. Wandering among the ruins of its theater, you’ll feel as though you’re witnessing the religious ceremonies of antiquity.
And then there’s the Yelbeği Rock Tomb… This monument in the Göksu Valley tells the story of an Isaurian warrior through its reliefs. Once a majestic site before the rise of the dam waters, it now lies submerged…

A Feast of Nature: Canyons, Waterfalls, and Plateaus
The Zengibar Trail is a paradise for nature lovers. As you venture into the depths of Gürleyen Canyon, the music of water flowing through the rocks will accompany you. Crossing the stone bridges that connect the canyon’s two sides will give you an adrenaline rush!
Çetmi Waterfall and Ayıboğazı Canyon are the hidden gems of the route. With its untouched nature and deep pools, this waterfall is a dream for photography enthusiasts. But beware: the pools are deep, so avoid swimming if you’re not confident!
The plateaus serve as resting points on this journey. In Bolat Plateau, you can breathe in the fresh air and savor tea brewed by the locals. Camping by Afşar Dam Lake and watching the turquoise light reflecting on the water at sunset is an unforgettable experience.
Immersed in Culture: Yörük Hospitality
This route offers not just encounters with nature but also with people. In Yazdamı Village, you can watch the Bozkır Spoon Dance, one of Turkey’s most vibrant folk dances.
In Hadim, as you wander through the Gök Üzüm vineyards, you’ll witness the winemaking tradition that has endured since Roman times. Don’t leave without tasting the molasses made from the grapes grown in the Aladağ Valley!
